Challenge
Moving away from paper drawings in a growing sales operation
Before using magicplan, Monk’s Home Improvements created drawings using graph paper and pencil. As the company grew, it transitioned to a paperless workflow and moved sales tools onto iPads.
When Monk’s opened its showrooms, the team needed a way to import drawings into the software used by designers. This requirement led them to adopt magicplan, which allowed drawings to be created digitally and shared with showroom teams.
Solution
Using magicplan to capture floor plans and support the sales process
Monk’s Home Improvements has been using magicplan for approximately eight years. Trevor explains that he uses it himself and also trains new salespeople to use the app.
Estimators use magicplan multiple times a day to measure decks and create layouts for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, attics, additions, and other projects. These drawings are sent electronically to the showroom, where they are imported into design software used by the company’s designers.
When working with a new customer, an estimator visits the home, creates an estimate, and determines whether the customer needs to visit the showroom. For projects requiring design input, magicplan is used alongside other tools to gather measurements and layout information.
Monk’s has 13 estimators who are responsible for creating floor plans using magicplan.
Results
Time savings and fewer errors during appointments
Trevor estimates that using magicplan saves time during customer appointments.
He explains that appointments typically last about an hour and a half, or up to three hours for larger renovation projects. By sending drawings electronically instead of delivering paper sketches, estimators reduce delays.
Trevor also notes that using magicplan helps reduce human error associated with handwritten drawings, such as illegible notes, damaged paper, or lost documents.
Outlook
A daily tool used across field sales and design teams
Trevor explains that magicplan is a core part of the company’s workflow. Estimators use it daily, and Trevor trains all new salespeople on how to use it.
In some cases, estimators also show customers 3D renderings created with magicplan during in-home visits.
When asked to describe magicplan in one word, Trevor’s response reflects his experience with the app. “Awesome.”
