Challenge

Moving from pen-and-paper drawings to digital floor plans

Before using magicplan, Santec Sanierung created all floor plans using pen and paper. Drawings were done by hand and later scanned, which made them harder to read and share.

Introducing a new digital tool represented a significant change for the company. According to Tom, the biggest challenge during the transition was selecting the right device to use with magicplan, rather than learning the app itself.

Solution

Implementing magicplan for on-site floor plan creation

Santec Sanierung began using magicplan after it was recommended by an employee who had already used the app at a previous company. The team decided to adopt it because they found it “very progressive” for their field.

Employees learned how to use magicplan primarily by doing. The employee who initially recommended the app demonstrated how it worked, and the rest of the team learned through hands-on use.

Today, eleven employees use magicplan to create floor plans. Depending on the damage, these can range from simple room sketches to more detailed plans covering entire houses. Floor plans include key elements needed for remediation work, such as radiators, windows, stairways, and doors

Results

Faster workflows and easier collaboration

With magicplan, employees can work more effectively outside of the office. Drawings can be created on site, sent from the field, accessed later, and edited by multiple employees if necessary.

During a typical workflow, a project manager receives notification of damage from an insurance company or property manager, visits the site, documents the damage, creates a scale drawing with magicplan, and takes photos. Back at the office, an offer for the remediation work is prepared and sent to the insurance company for approval.

Santec Sanierung also sends floor plan drawings and photos to insurance companies. Tom notes that this approach is very well received.

Outlook

Efficient documentation for employees, fitters, and insurers

Tom highlights the ability to connect a Bluetooth meter as a key feature used on every project. Employees follow a consistent procedure when creating drawings, naming rooms, adding dimensions, and inserting frequently used elements saved as favorites.

magicplan drawings are also used by fitters, who previously received scanned hand drawings that were not always easy to read. With magicplan, fitters receive clear drawings showing what they will find on site, including marked locations where work needs to be carried out.

When asked to describe magicplan in one word, Tom’s answer reflects the overall experience. “Efficient.”
